Description

This 15 meter tall tree is a member of the Protea family, and historically significant as it was used by Van Riebeeck to create the first formal boundary in Cape Town. It produces a cover of white flowers and fruit that resembles the almond. It's fruit are inedible to humans but relished by porcupines. Historically it has been prepared as a coffee-like drink.

It prefers a sunny spot along riverine areas and in mountain Fynbos; it requires a wet site.
